Jewish Guests at the National Center of Manuscripts
On the 22th of July the National Center of Manuscripts was visited by Ema Meian Fanari, doctor at Art History Department of Haifa University. The guest was hosted by Tamar Gegia, the deputy director of the National Center of Manuscripts.
The scholar is interested in the IX-XI manuscript depictions of initials, their decorations and generally, decorative systems of the manuscripts of this period. According to the research interests, she had the opportunity to see the IX-XI century Georgian manuscript books (Jruchi gospel 936-640; Life of John Chrysostom, 968; Tskarostavi gospel X-XI c; Martvili gospel 1050; Alaverdi gospel 1054.) and closely examine their decoration system.
The guest was given the possibility to familiarize herself with the oriental collection kept at the Center and part of the archival material.
At the end, an interesting discussion took place concerning the future collaboration plans between the National Center of Manuscripts and Jewish research centers.
The guest was handed the editions of the National Center of Manuscripts as a gift.
